Philosophy and Approach

Children learn through play!

At Mount Kelly International Preschool there is not a choice between ‘Play’ and ‘Academics’. Play is the foundation of intellectual development and the catalyst for solid academic achievement.

When a child is engrossed in play, whether it is free play, guided play, adventure play or social play, they learn about themselves and the world around them. By engaging with their environment, their peers and their teachers, children will develop social and cognitive skills, become emotionally mature, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences.

We take on the values of the British Early Years Curriculum the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and our approach to early childhood education has been formed by the 4 overarching principles of the EYFS:

  • We believe that every child is a unique child, and is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
  • We know that positive relationships support children to learn to be strong and independent
  • We ensure that children learn and develop well in our enabling environments, in which the experiences provided by us respond to their individual needs, and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers
  • We understand that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and ensure every child’s learning and development is supported.

Mount Kelly International Preschool is a positive extension of your child’s home life. We know that children learn best when they are happy and secure in an educational environment when children enjoy school, they are more likely to attain the skills and knowledge appropriate for their age and developmental level.

Our small class sizes give children the highest levels of attention in order for them to reach their full potential. We aim for learning to be a rewarding and stimulating experience, and encourage children to learn through exploration, investigation and discovery.

Class structures

Parent Partnership
Working closely with parents is paramount to the overall support and development of your child. We strongly encourage parents to join our school events, come into the classroom to experience your child’s school day, take part in our Parent Partnership Scheme and get involved in our school community.
