Venue: Mount Kelly International Preschool

Pack your imagination and come on board for a storytelling adventure!

We’re presenting a new workshop to introduce our Read, Play, Grow Programme. A fun way for children to engage with the English language through stories.

On this occasion, we will read Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy, a fascinating story about space exploration and imagination.

This Workshop has a cost of HKD 100.

The Book

Baby Bear wants to go to the moon and so searches around the house until he finds a rocket (a cardboard box), a space-helmet (a colander) and space-boots (his wellies). All set, he blasts off out of the chimney and into the night. Joined by an owl, Baby Bear soars high into the night sky until finally they reach the moon. Of course, when he returns to earth for his bath, his mother doesn't believe where he has been.

What is Read, Play, Grow Series?

An emergent literacy programme for children aged 3 to 6 years old, with immersion in a favourite and fun children’s story with interesting characters and a fascinating storyline, as well as make up their own.

What can children learn from the workshop?

Childhood is a time full of stories that enrich the imagination. During the Read, Play, grow series we use well-known and well-loved stories, and introduce the undiscovered. This integrated language and literacy workshop is designed for skill and knowledge building, as well as for the pure pleasure of enjoying a book.

Children can pursue the learning of skills for speaking, reading and writing in English, in an environment that fosters the all-round development of the child. Activities include a combination of oral storytelling, drama, performance skills and writing activities.

What can parents learn from the workshops?

Parents can take part in and observe how young children learn to read and write. They will take away tips from our experienced teachers on how to support their child with language and literacy at home, as well as get involved in story time. Parents are sure to have a lot of fun with their child as they experience Mount Kelly’s philosophy and methodology and a British, play-based education.
