THE BENEFITS OF PLAYGROUP

MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCES FROM A YOUNG AGE

Playgroup is the start of a child’s journey in education. It is during the first few years where rapid and crucial development is taking place. Consequently, early years education is fundamental in laying the foundations for a successful and well-rounded learner. Playgroups offer a stimulating environment in which children play, learn and develop through new experiences, new opportunities, and with new friends. Key skills such as social interaction, language, physical development and problem-solving are learnt and enhanced here and carried through for the rest of their lives. Playgroup is, therefore, an essential building block for a child’s development.

WHAT ARE THE KEY BENEFITS OF PLAYGROUP?

SOCIAL INTERACTION

Playgroup provides an ideal setting for children to develop crucial social skills from a young age. Indeed, it offers new and effective opportunities for social interaction and play with other children and adults. They can learn to take turns, make friends and interact and share with others in class in a safe, familiar environment. Moreover, as each child is unique, playgroup allows for each child to approach social interaction at their own pace, in their own time, with support and encouragement from adults and teachers.

Playgroup Benefits

SHARED EXPERIENCES

Playgroup is a wonderful way for children and their carer to bond and share new experiences together. This is a special relationship between children and their carer which we value at Mount Kelly Babies and Toddlers and strive to strengthen through support and guidance from our teachers. Furthermore, adult participation is extremely beneficial in enhancing children’s play. It can extend their vocabulary as they interact in activities such as role-playing together, stimulate their curiosity, encourage them to try new things and challenge their thinking.

Playgroup Benefits

PREPARATION FOR SCHOOL

Starting school can be a big step for children. Playgroup is an excellent stepping stone to prepare children and make this transition as seamless as possible. Attending playgroup will ensure children feel comfortable in a learning environment as well as being accustomed to following instructions and interacting with other children. Playgroup is also a useful way to start the process of and encourage independence away from their main carer in preparation for school. To ensure a smooth transition from playgroup to school, we at Mount Kelly, offer an all-through education from infancy right up to pre-university level.

Benefits of playgroup

DEVELOPING LIFE-LONG SKILLS

Children who attend playgroup are given an excellent opportunity to attain and develop life-long skills, for example independent thinking, confidence, creativity and imagination. These skills will benefit them in school and beyond, something we support and nurture from a young age through the use of play-based learning and the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum at Mount Kelly.

AT MOUNT KELLY BABIES AND TODDLERS:

These highlighted points are just some of the many benefits to attending playgroup. Others include the encouragement of physical activity (such as jumping, throwing or climbing in our Mount Kelly Play Zone), building a child’s confidence and assisting in language development and communication. At Mount Kelly Babies and Toddlers, we strive to achieve all of the above in our playgroup sessions while also offering new and exciting opportunities for children to participate, play, interact and explore.
